About National HIV Testing Day
Community-based organizations across Saskatchewan coordinated the first provide-wide HIV testing day on June 27, 2017 in response to high rates of HIV infection in the province. The purpose of the “Saskatchewan HIV Testing Day” was to promote and offer HIV testing to the general public in an effort to educate, reduce stigma, and normalize HIV testing.
In partnership with local HIV/AIDS community-based organization and groups, targeted ‘testing fairs’ were organized across the province by various Regional Health Authorities, First Nations Inuit Health Branch (FNIHB), and the Northern Inter-Tribal Health Authority (NITHA).
Recognizing the efforts made by Saskatchewan, the Canadian AIDS Society (CAS) announced its first pan-Canadian Community HIV Testing Day would be held on June 27, 2018. National HIV Testing Day events are now organized by the CAS annually on June 27th.
